WATER DRAGON FEST
The portside Town of Elmina is holding their annual Water Dragon Festival in honor of the Water Dragon Waka. Water Dragon Waka is a known foodie, so there will be a cooking competition held by the city lord as well as a variety of street vendors set up to celebrate the festivities. Additionally, the royal family of Valeria will be holding a hunt in the nearby Pouring Rainforest in honor of this event. This forest is controlled terrain so they will be releasing captive beasts into it. Choose. Do you want to help or hinder with these activities? The choices are yours.

The Red Desert, if the burning sun and harsh environment didn’t kill you the locals might from either getting caught in the crossfire of one of their many spats or just cause they don’t like you much either.
Not exactly a place for the faint of heart so it was no surprise that the Kingdom would make such a request. A request that was either going to yield quite the exciting trip or one that would end rather uneventful and be nothing more than a painful trip of getting sand everywhere and sweating one’s ass off, the former being preferred of course.
The desert wasn’t completely new territory for the Alastair; jobs in the past took him to this place. Either to deal with some of the local spats the place was so well known also to help people’s passages and other tasks. It was why he seemed so comfortable when he arrived at a nice oasis town.
Properly dressed and equipped to go with everything he might need, Gabriel, sat outside at a table in front of what was essentially a bar, sipping a cool drink that was in one had while reading a map that rested neatly on the table below and enjoying the shade that was cast by the umbrella nearby.
The chart that had Gabriel’s attention, of course, wasn’t a detail one nor did it have much information on it. Information on the desert wasn’t exactly bountiful and what was known was typically reserved to the locals.
But instead, the map was a personal one of Gabriel’s that contained more notes than anything else. Tips and guides on what tribes to avoid and spots that he some idea of where they were at. Filling it out more would be nice, make coming here and traversing the challenging landscape easier.
Once his companion for the mission would meet him here it’d be best they made sure to resupply on anything they might need. Traversing the desert ill-prepared was a good way to end up dead and out of all the ways Gabriel was okay with dying this was not one of them. He wouldn't mind spending the rest of his days in this town though, it was a nice mini paradise.
the desert wasn't something elysia had the most experience with. she did a few missions and 'random bouts of wandering' here and there. and each time, she remembered why she didn't like it. it was just so...empty. hot. dry. boring. how people lived out in such areas was beyond her. but, if there was something out there causing trouble, she was more than happy to lend a fist in beating the shit outta it!
dressed in light, revealing clothing, already, the woman could feel the effect of the sun beating down so harshly on the area. wiping her brow as she arrived at the oasis town, it didn't take her too long to find her supposed partner either. he stuck out like a sore thumb to her, for some odd reason. something about...his smell, or something. it was odd. nice. weird. 'not bad'. definitely something she wouldn't forgot. aside from that, of course she knew him in name, who didn't?
"Oi, Gabe." Casual words of greeting were followed by a grin as a hand rested on his shoulder. as casual as ever even if it was someone she just met, her arms draped over his shoulders, her chest pressing into his back as she leaned into him. In reality, she was just taking a closer peek at the map he possessed, even if 'planning in ahead' really wasn't her thing. honestly, she planned on just leaving it all to him.
"so..." she breathed out, voice growing far more serious, "first question - how many snacks did ya pack?"
He wasn’t sure exactly when he noticed, and he couldn’t tell exactly how far it was but he knew she was near. Gifts of the magic given to him, his senses were heightened to a level beyond where they had already been trained allowing him to….smell her?
Maybe smell wasn’t the right word but whatever it was a factor as to why he would respond so casually to the approaching mage. And even if his senses didn’t help who else would approach him so brazenly without a care in the world, but such mannerism were to be expected with her.
”Ms. Vadala, a pleasure to finally meet you properly.” The Black Wolf responded, focus still on the map below. It was nice to be working with someone that he was any sort of familiar with even if it was just in passing. If anything at least he know had a blunt object to throw at anything that happened to get in their way, heaven bless them if they do.
You don’t get the reputation that she has without actually having the muscle to back it up. While this mission being rather uneventful would probably be more ideal than anything else, being able to see her in action would be a sight to see. Gabriel always enjoyed a nice fireworks show.
Her question was met with a chuckle, motioning toward all the gear that he brought with him. ”More than enough, and I brought the good stuff.” Suffering in the desert was not the plan so he made sure to be prepared.
”But while I’ve got your attention let’s go over the map real quick. Here’s the path that we’ll be following, a popular traveling route that many people, locals and civilians alike, like to take and apparently where most of the problems are coming from.” As he explained he traced along the map with a finger, showing where exactly they’d be going.
Gabriel took another sip of his drink, he could stay here a while but it was shame he couldn’t. ”Any questions? Concerns? Thoughts? I’m in no rush to go running around in the red desert so whenever you’re ready.” This drink was really good.
"just call me elysia. elly, if you're ever feelin' bold." the silvery haired woman waved him off with a flick of her hand. she was never one for that fancy title stuff - likely because manners didn't come naturally to her. she blamed that on her scaled parent though - dragons tended to be rude as all hell. looking over their equipment that - if he was telling the truth - had plenty for her to munch on and keep her energy up...she was impressed. pleased. satisfied. granted, it usually didn't take much for her to get to that state. "niicceee," she casually said with a smile.
keeping her position of leaning over him so she could stare at the map, she nodded. honestly...plans weren't her forte. she wasn't dumb, just...god, they were so taxing. annoying, boring. it was so much easier to just go on ahead and just...do it. but, even she realized that, regardless of how strong she believed herself to be, the desert could, and would, kill any who was foolish enough to traverse it without being prepared. that much, she understood. "sounds like a plan. won't have to worry too much about getting lost either if we take the common route," she offered with a single nod.
leaning back and finally removing her hands from his shoulders, she opted to sit on the table instead, legs kicking about as she thought aloud with a hum. "nah. this weather is perfect for a nap though." she yawned, the immense urge to curl up then and there was overbearing. her habit for taking naps any and everywhere, in the strangest of places at that, was rearing its head again, it seemed. her stare briefly flickered to that rather delicious looking drink he was sipping on and...honestly, had he been someone she knew even the faintest of bit better, she likely would've taken it from him, if just to get a sip herself. thankfully, the blood and iron empress contained herself.
"lets get this over with. the quicker we do, the quicker you can come back and treat me to one of those." with a taunting smirk, she motioned towards his drink.
A nap sure as hell did sound nice. A more comfy chair positioned waterside with a few more of a these drinks and Gabriel could easily see him drifting off to dreamland. The thought was pleasant, and definitely something he’d do once they got back from this job.
He couldn’t help but shake this feeling that it was going to be much more complicated than it need be. That’s typically how his jobs ended up nowadays anyhow. Felt as if he had was on a really long loser’s streak sometimes, but lady luck would definitely be on his side today.
Gabriel stood from his seat, finishing the last bit of his drink as he did so, before facing Elysia and smiling. ”You don’t have to tell me twice! I can’t wait to get paid so I can spoil myself.” But there were a few matters that needed to be taken care of before their venturing could begin.
”Ever ride a camel before?” He’d ask the fellow mage as he approached a man he had spoken to earlier before her arrival. Traversing on foot wasn’t the most ideal scenario when crossing the desert, especially when you had better alternatives.
A quick transaction was made, a group of men loaded the Alastair’s gear onto the desert steeds and with that, they would be ready to get going. Gabriel had gotten a camel for both, a hand reaching out toward Elysia. ”C’mon then, let’s get moving.” The main purpose for these beasts was to carry their gear, riding them was just a bonus.
Be a pain in the ass to have to carry anything through the hot ass desert with the sun beating you over the head. These creatures were used to it and could handle it much better than any person could. It was a simple case of now venturing into the desert and that they would.
”Ah yes the wonders of the desert! As you can see over there we have some lovely sand! And if you look right over here we have more sand!” Gabriel joked, throwing his hands up in the air as if he unveiled something amazing.
He didn’t mount the camel but instead carried it along by the reigns. ”Report as soon as you find anything huh?” The man mused. ”Be really easy to notice anything that pops out in this sea of nothing.” Or they’d wonder about the desert and nothing would happen.
'get paid' - that was a mood. especially considering she had problems with saving money, more often than not. at the very least, she did a better job than she had upon first becoming a mage. gods, she flew through jewels as though it were food...spending it on, quite literally, that. food and booze. it was pretty miserable, honestly. filling, but, not a life she wanted to lead. snapping back to at his question, the silvery haired woman quirked a brow.
"camel? i...don't think so. you don't eat it?" she asked blankly with a tilted head. it was only when she was staring at the brown beast that was bigger than she was did she realize, no. you don't eat them. after naming her camel 'rolf' for some odd reason and seeming to have an odd fondness of him, despite him refusing to respond to his 'new name', the lightning slayer was ready to go.
and by 'go', that meant realizing how damned boring the desert actually was.
five minutes into their departure, and she promptly realized she hated walking on sand. it was weird. itchy. complex. likely did wonders for stamina training, but...not right now. it was too hot for that. and so, unlike her companion, she took to riding her camel. snickering slightly at her companions enthusiastic introduction to just how wonderfully sandy deserts were, she was quick to follow suit. "i can't wait until we get to the part where we see more sand. i heard...its the sandiest." cackling under her breath at her, lame, joke, she relaxed against her camel a bit. she'd leave the 'seeing' part up to gabriel and focus on trying to smell or hear anything. aka, she was tired of looking at sand.
"what d'ya thinks out there?" she suddenly asked. "what if its like...a really big worm. a sand worm - are those a thing? that'd be pretty cool...i'd totally bring it back to the guild hall." why? to creep the girls out with it, of course. maybe try and hang it on the walls or something until the guildmaster forced her to take it down.
Finally the two of you have set out on your desert adventure! Traveling by foot, it boggles your moderator as to why you even bothered with bringing a camel. If you’re going to walk, you should fully commit to that method of transportation. Camels are a gas factory, and if this site had real stats, you would lose -10 for virtual pollution. Regardless, your trip manages to continue at a leisurely pace and there doesn’t seem to be a whole lot of action, when suddenly something grabs onto Elysia Vadala’s ankle. [break][break] “Uhm excuse me…” the voice of a child that beckons you to turn around. Two yellow ears twitch, as a cat-like creature rubs up against you. [break][break]
The sandiest. That amused Gabriel more than it probably should have. A little excitement would be nice or at least anything to do other than their current boring walk through the never-ending sands. Despite his boredom Gabriel stayed ever vigilant; it wasn’t as if they were in the friendliest of places.
And that was how you ended up getting caught up in something anyhow, dropping you guard, worst thing to do in such a place with a reputation like the Red Desert had. It was easy to get lost in thoughts out here with nothing around and nothing to see.
An eyebrow raised as his friend here brought up sandworms, which was then followed by a chuckle. ”Sandworms are a pain in the ass to deal with. Real big bastards, hard to kill and hauling one around?” He laughed at the question.
”Might need to get a new guild hall.” Gabriel laughed to himself a bit more, the thought humoring him more than it should. Now sandworms would be a great explanation as to why so many people were having such a terrible time getting through this place as anyone would with those monsters roaming around.
He’d stop in advancing forward when he picked up the scent of something new or rather someone. Turning around he was surprised to see what was a bipedal cat tugging on Elysia’s ankle.
The look and demeanor of the cat kept Gabriel from assuming it was hostile, because looking at it probably couldn’t hurt a fly. He was a bit thrown off by the fact that it could talk but he had definitely seen stranger things in his life. But it was definitely weird to just find a random talking cat in the middle of the desert.
”Well hey there Sam.” The mage said, walking over to the cat and crouching down. ”My name’s Gabriel and this here is Elysia.” He began, a hand gesturing to the fellow mage. ”And we’d love to help you find your way back home, deserts a terrible place to be lost in. Where ya from little buddy?” Gabriel asked with a smile.
the more he spoke about sandworms and how utterly annoying they sounded, the more the lightning slayer grew excited. challenges were always a good way to pass time, no? and if she needed to drape the bastard over the roof - that was fine. she was positive pudding would let her keep it there for at least a day before telling her to get rid of it. before she could suggest such an outrageous idea back to the man though, the sensation of something touching her made the slayer bristle. golden eyes immediately flickered downwards, fist clenching and preparing to electrocute the perpetrator to death, it stopped only when she saw....a cat?
scornfully fearsome look immediately dropping, the woman stared, more than a bit shocked at the appearance of...a cat. a two-legged, talking cat. a bit at a loss for words, she let gabriel do the talking...until it hit her. it was a cat. "you are...the most adorable thing," more than a bit upfront, a wide smile bore across her lips. she leaned downed, scooping the cat up into her arms albeit, not the gentlest. "or ya could come home with auntie elly," her eyes flickered towards her darker haired companion - she was dead serious. why not save them both time and just pack him on up and bring him home?
not to mention...she could totally rub it in enlil vindr 's stupid face that she had a talking cat. and he didn't. while she was positive he wouldn't care atop of saying plenty of other...irritating things, she'd like to believe that it was something she could 'one up' him with.
still...
clearing her throat, she soon stated, far more begrudgingly, "bringing you back home'll be an easy job for us though, sammy. we're both super strong, ya see." the hand that didn't hold the cat clenched into a fist, allowing electricity to briefly run over her knuckles and crackle loudly whilst a confident smirk played on her lips.
Samuel is elated that he managed to find two strangers that will help him on his journey! Before he gets the chance to reply to Gabriel Alastair however, he’s swept off his feet and is forced flush against Elysia Vadala’s body. Squeaking desperately, he manages to loosen the mage’s grip just enough to catch her knuckles crackling with electricity. He breaks out in cold sweat and his body turns rigid. Big baby tears well up to his eyes, and he turns to look at Gabriel for saving. [break][break] C-can you save him from your partner? Your choice from here will affect the request and future stories.
